Located in Kangra valley almost midway between Manali and Dharamshala Bir - Billing is a destination for the adventure traveller. The paragliding site at Bir - Billing near Baijnath is regarded as among the best in the world for Paragliding. Billing at 2290 m is the take-off site and Bir is the village at the landing site. Many trek routes also pass throgh Bir - Billing.
Bir and Billing are renowned as a destination for ecotourism and meditation studies. Billing is located in the greater Bir region about 14 kms from Bir. Set amidst paths winding through tea gardens into the forests and mountains to the north this region in Himachal is amongst the most tranquil and exilirating at the same time.
Bir and Billing are the twin positions where the first paragliding international championship was held in India. This year the championship will be held between the 21st October to 26th October.
Billing is located in the greater Bir region and is about 14 kms from Bir. A jeep track cut out of rocks lead to Billing from Bir. The jeep track was constructed way back in 1962. Billing first came into news in 1984 when an international Hang Gliding rally was organized at Billing. Now an international paragliding competition is held annually in Billing. In the month of May / June a tented colony is set up by H.P. Tourism to facilitate adventure enthusiasts. Paragliding and hang gliding enthusiasts can fly upto chamba from Billing.
Bir Tibetan Colony is a Tibetan refugee settlement in Chowgan on the outskirts of Bir. With many monasteries and temples, the Deer Park Institute, handicraft centre and the tibetan herbal centre there is lots in the colony that attracts the tourists.
