Beas Kund is a holy lake where as per legend Rishi Vyas took his daily bath. River Beas originates from Beas Kund and meets its first tributary orginating from Rohtang Pass near Dhundi. The trek route to Beas Kund is well trodden except for the winter months when most of the trail is covered in snow. Bhakar Thach is the camping site enrote the trek route to Beas Kund.
Beas Kund trek is one of the most popular and beautiful trek in Kullu Valley. Beas Kund trek is a relatively easy trek and an ideal one for those on a first trek in Himalayan region. The trek starts near Solang Valley about 15 Kms from Manali. The trek route from Solang Valley to Beas Kund is about 15 kms long. The trek upto Dhundi 8 kms from Solang Valley is on a paved road.
Bhakar Thach - ABVIMAS Campsite
During summer Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports establish their base camp in Bhakar Thach to train aspiring mountaineers on snow and ice craft.
Rohtang Tunnel is a 8.8 km tunnel being built under the Rohtang Pass in the Pir Panjal range of the Himalayas on the Leh-Manali Highway. The tunnel is intended to create an all-weather route to Leh and Lahaul and Spiti valleys. The south end of the tunnel is just north of Dhundi enroute the Beas Kund Trek. The northern end of the tunnel meets the existing Manali-Leh highway near Teling village about 10 km from Gramphu. 4.4 kms of Rohtang tunnel has been dug and the work on the tunnel is expected to be completed by 2017.
Solang valley about 15 Kms from Manali is the base for Beas Kund trek. Solang Nala is also famous for the Anjani Mahadev temple which boasts of a natural ice Shivling. You can either trek up to the top or hire a pony to go up to the Anjani Mahadev temple.
